What you need to think about when planning an engagement party

You’ve said “yes” to a proposal, told your friends and family the good news and the next step is to plan an engagement party to celebrate in style. Although the truth is, your engagement can be as elaborate or as stripped-back as you like, we’ve put together some tips to help you organize the ultimate engagement party and spend time with the people who matter most…

Decide on the guest list

Perhaps one of the most important things you need to consider is the guest list. Who are you going to invite to celebrate your engagement? It’s so easy to want to go over the top and invite everyone you know, but you’re more likely to have a good evening if you keep it to close friends and family. A more intimate gathering will allow you to let your hair down and have some fun – remember that this engagement party is for you, not for everyone else!

Think about a venue

Next up, consider where you’re going to host your party. You could choose to hire out a venue or even the same location as your future wedding reception, or keep it more low-key and host it in your home or garden. Again, it all comes down to how much you want to celebrate – if you’re planning on inviting dozens of guests, then the chances are that your back garden won’t suffice. Remember to speak to venues in advance as, in these COVID-19 times, places are booking up quickly and you might have to settle for your second choice.

Celebrate with images and videos

One of the best ways to celebrate your coming together is to find lots of images and videos of you as a couple and display them on a wall or in a slide show at your party. It’s a great way to share some of your happiest moments with your friends and family – they can see where you’ve been on your holidays, snaps from your proposal, and more. If you’re feeling super generous, you could even give some of these photos away in a photo book for guests to take home – they’ll be able to look back at your memories as you celebrate your wedding.

Get your outfit just right

Although an engagement party certainly isn’t as important as your wedding day, you’ll still want to find a suitable outfit so you can look your best in front of your favorite people. We recommend a comfortable dress or one-piece that allows you to mingle with attendees without feeling like you can’t breathe. Oh, and if you haven’t already done so, it’s high time that you started looking at engagement rings – guests are going to want to see you rocking your ring! You should also organize for it to be fitted before the party so it doesn’t fall off.

Hire a photo booth

Want to make more memories? Hiring a photo booth is a great way to do exactly that. Your guests can have some fun inside of the booth taking silly photographs, and they can be printed and branded with yours’ and your partner’s name, allowing everyone to remember your special engagement party. You could even invest in some props to get people laughing.
